I agree to abide by the rules and regulations of Mission Green Light’s “Let’s Beat Cancer by Dancing” Belly Dance Competition. I, the entrant, agree that Mission Green Light, Rafi Munim, The Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, Sonya Blacker, Arabesque Dance LLC or any of their associates regarding Mission Green Light’s “Let’s Beat Cancer by Dancing” Belly dance Competition are not responsible to anyone or their heirs, for personal injury, lost or stolen articles, etc., at or en route to these events.

I authorize Mission Green Light and Rafi Munim, to use any or all photos/videos taken of me during Mission Green Light’s “Let’s Beat Cancer by Dancing” Belly Dance Competition, for educational, promotional, and professional purposes. I release all rights, compensation, and recourse to these events.

Belly Dance Competition 2011

Scoring Criteria

 

Soloists (all styles welcome) are welcome to compete – Competition dancers will be scored 1 through 10 based on the following points:

 

TECHNIQUE

Hip Articulation          *        Footwork and Traveling     *        Fluidity and Grace (torso and arms)

Isolations   *        Balance    *        Level of Difficulty (layering, level changes, etc)

 

MUSICALITY

Dancer demonstrates movement that visually represents choice of music

Dancer is able to convey emotion appropriate to music through facial expression and gestures

Dancer responds appropriately to tempo/time signature changes in music

Quality of music editing—edited music should retain the essence of the piece and respectthe musical structure, there should be no abrupt breaks or jumps in sound level changes – Music should be Mid-Eastern or have Mid-Eastern qualities. 5-7 minutes max!

 

PERFORMANCE SKILL

Entrance and exit in character           *        Effective use of stage space

Stage presence--ability to project personality and mood to audience

 

COSTUMING

Grooming (hair, makeup) is appropriate to being a performer

Costume fit and appearance is appropriate to style of dance and is becoming

to the dancer

 

PROPS (not required)

Skillful usage of props in a way that enhances the overall dance performance

Smooth transitions in adding/discarding of props

 

IMPORTANT: No special attention is automatically given for prop usage, nor does it matter if you use one, three or none, although proper prop usage can enhance the score through each of the above 4 categories. Dancer must set and strike her props within her time limit, or it may adversely affect her score.

 

 

TALLYING  THE  TOTAL

All 3 judges’ scores will be added together & divided by three to reach the average score, or mean.

 

(All scores will be kept confidential until after the completion of the Contest – if a contestant wants to receive her scores after the contest she must provide a self-addressed/stamped envelope.)
